This past fall, I decided at the very last minute to sign up as a guest participant in the Better Homes and Garden’s six-week One Room Challenge.

This challenge is a community celebration of creativity, inspiration, and original ideas, and was the kick in the butt I needed to do something with our guest room which, was essentially becoming a catch-all room with a bed that was too big for the space.

During the six-week challenge, I painted a lot. I’m always amazed at how something so simple and affordable as paint can completely transform a space. I even tried my hand at using a sprayer for the bedframe, but I was not happy with the finish I was getting, so I resorted to painting by hand.

I had been pondering replacing the full-sized bed with a daybed for months, and while I was researching, I came across the perfect option and in a color that inspired the entire space. The only problem was the price tag of that one item. After a little more digging, I found the exact same bed frame for cheaper in white then painted it.

I installed closet doors and painted them the same color as the wall to create a seamless look, switched out the builder grade boob light and installed a sconce, hung a little bit of art, and added a full-length mirror to complete the room.
